Exploring themes of memory, lived experience and connection, Noelle’s vibrant artwork brings colour, creativity and inspiration to our workspaces.
Below, Noelle shares the inspiration behind her collection in her own words.
“I am delighted to be exhibiting Emotional Landscape a small selection of works at The Workhouse Enniskillen. A very special space synonymous with a sensitive history, heritage, memory, and now and creative visions for the future.
The intimate Chambers lend themselves perfectly whether you are meeting or working there. My hope is my work will help ignite creativity & imagination in subtle ways, support the nurturing environment for individuals, organisations & businesses to develop & grow in creative & innovate ways.
My Emotional Landscapes series reflects my continuing exploration of the human condition, memory, lived experience and the complex emotional landscapes we inhabit throughout our lives.
As an artist, I am fascinated by the relationship between our inner emotional worlds and the physical landscapes that surround us. My paintings emerge & merge from personal experience, memory and imagination, shaped by family, friendship, a sense of place and the unexpected events, unplanned detours and beautiful collisions along the way.
Working with colour, texture, light and expressive mark-making, I build layers across the canvas, allowing fragments of imagery to emerge, disappear and reappear. Through the processes of construction and deconstruction, the surface becomes a metaphor for our own lives: layered with experiences, marked by change, sometimes fractured, yet continually evolving.
My use of colour is instinctive and emotive. Contrasting tones, textured surfaces and unexpected encounters between colours reflect the tensions, uncertainties and possibilities that exist within us. Beneath the visible surface, traces of earlier layers remain, suggesting the memories and experiences we carry, even as we move forward. The experience of the pandemic brought particular urgency to questions of isolation, connection, wellbeing and the emotional spaces that exist between us.
For me, art offers a means of making sense of life and expressing what words alone cannot always convey. It is a source of reflection, discovery and resilience, allowing difficult experiences to be acknowledged while creating space for hope, possibility and renewal.
I invite viewers to bring their own memories, feelings and interpretations to these works. Each person will discover a different landscape, shaped by their own experiences and imagination.
Titles like Wishes, dreams & lullabies, Jacobs ladder,Harvest beyond & Heartland may reasonate with the child within all of us.
Ultimately, Emotional Landscapes is about the landscapes we inherit, the landscapes we inhabit and those we create within ourselves. It celebrates the complexity of being human and our capacity to continue discovering, connecting and growing through the changing seasons of life.”
