Enniskillen Workhouse will welcome visitors through its doors on Saturday 12 September as part of European Heritage Open Days 2026, offering a unique opportunity to discover the history, stories and restoration of one of Enniskillen’s most significant historic buildings.
The surviving Entrance Block of Enniskillen Workhouse reopened in December 2022 following an extensive restoration project which secured an important part of the town’s built and social heritage for future generations.
Built in the early 1840s and designed by renowned workhouse architect George Wilkinson, Enniskillen Workhouse was once one of the most important buildings in the town. While its architecture and surviving fabric are significant, the real importance of the Workhouse lies with the people who passed through its doors, their stories, their lives and, for many, their deaths.
The Entrance Block is now the only surviving part of the former Enniskillen Union Workhouse and provides an important connection to the social and economic history of Enniskillen and County Fermanagh.
Visitors on Saturday 12 September are invited to join a special guided tour of the building, hearing about life within the Workhouse, exploring surviving features and discovering the story of its restoration and its renewed place within Enniskillen today.

The special guided tour will take place on Saturday 12 September, from 11.30am to 1.00pm. The event is free, but places are limited and advance booking is essential.
